Infinitas Learning, one of the leading educational publishers in Europe, has today announced the creation of a new joint venture business with Excelsoft Technologies, a leading provider of  online teaching and learning technology based in India.

The newly formed company will exploit the fast growing international digital market in K-12 and higher education by offering teachers and students access to their innovative, interactive online books. In addition, plans are already in place to launch an online community platform which will allow both teacher to teacher and student to student collaboration as well as the exciting possibility of teacher to student interaction totally online via the web in a global ‘e’ school environment.

This newly developed digital technology enables teachers to embed their own notes, animations, videoclips and test questions directly into an online version of the textbook that they use in class with their students. This simple, yet immensely powerful application has the facility for students to have their own user name and password which grants access to all the content that the teacher had shown them in their lesson 24/7. This even extends to a teacher being able to record their voice and embed it into any text within the online book – especially beneficial for language learning.

Grainger went on to say, “This logical extension of traditional textbooks into the digital age is the perfect opportunity to raise standards in both teaching and learning by extending opportunities for engagement beyond the classroom and supporting students of every level. Alongside this publishers are able to tag additional and updated resources to each book they release ensuring the online book is always engaging and evolving .”

It is envisaged that the e-school online learning platform will extend publishing opportunities. Teachers will be provided with the tools to publish content they have created themselves to use alongside the interactive book, and also to share in a collaborative environment with their peers. This technology will open up a myriad of exciting opportunities to both personalise and extend teaching and learning globally.

ದಶಕದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲ ಸೌಕರ್ಯಗಳು ಈಗಿನಷ್ಟು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೊಂಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಂಗ್ಲೆಂಡ್ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಕಡೆ ಆ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಇಂತಹ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳು ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ವಿಶಾಲವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ವಹಿವಾಟು ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಗೆ ವಿಪುಲ ಅವಕಾಶ ಇತ್ತು.
ಈಗ ಕಾಲ ಬದಲಾಗಿದೆ. ‘ಇ-ಕಲಿಕೆ’ಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ದೇಶಿ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮನಗಂಡಿವೆ. ಬ್ರಾಡ್‌ಬ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಸೇವೆ, ಇಂಟರ್‌ನೆಟ್, ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್‌ಗಳು ಅಗ್ಗವಾಗಿವೆ. ಜತೆಗೆ ಮೂಲ ಸೌಕರ್ಯಗಳೂ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹವಾಗಿ ಸುಧಾರಣೆಯಾಗಿವೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳೆದ 18 ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳಿಂದ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ವಹಿವಾಟು ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಗೆ ಗಮನ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Education and training solutions provider Excelsoft Technologies, which has established itself in the overseas market as a B2B provider, is now looking homewards, but to grow in the B2C area.

With a set of marquee clients such as the Guardian newspaper, Harvard Business School Publishing, Pearson Education and Whizz Education of the UK, already in its kitty, Excelsoft is leveraging on the products it built for these clients and working on ‘differentiated products for the Indian market.'

Mr D. Sudhanva, Managing Director, Excelsoft Technologies, told Business Line that the company would broadbase its offerings to build a strong brand that will cater to the B2C market in India.

The Rs 90-crore company, which has development centres in Mysore, Hyderabad and Noida, is also looking at a possible listing in 18-24 months.

Acquisitions, funding :

“In addition, we are also eyeing acquisitions of small companies ($3-4 million) operating in similar businesses but having strong IP assets that would complement our business,” he added. Funding for the acquisitions would be through internal accruals as B2B in the export market is a high margin business, he explained.

In India, Excelsoft has already developed learning management systems for corporates (Infosys, ICICI Bank) and is now looking at developing online platform and content for the K-12 (kindergarten to 12 {+t} {+h} standard) sector. The Mysore based company has also developed software for tests and assessments for institutes such as TIME and Brilliant. The company has tied up with Visvesvaraya Technical University and Anna University to deliver online programmes for their engineering courses.

Mysore based Excelsoft, an e-learning and e-assessments technology company, has announced that it was selected by T.I.M.E., India’s largest training institute for CAT preparation, to deliver over 3.5 lakhs fault-free online mock CAT exams in a span of about 20 weeks.

With CAT going online, T.I.M.E offered a comprehensive series of mock tests online during the run up to CAT 2009 for all their students using Excelsoft’s flagship product SARAS (for the Test and Assessment sector).

The tests were delivered through 195 franchise centers of T.I.M.E spread across the country. SARAS’s capabilities of delivering tests in online and mixed modes ensured that T.I.M.E was able to meet their requirement of conducting online/computer based tests even in remote areas with unreliable internet connectivity.”

“Excelsoft solution has inbuilt mechanisms to handle loss of power, loss of network, low bandwidth and combinations of such operational scenario. In all these situations, the end user’s test-taking experience is unaffected. Tests were delivered with minimal disruptions in all locations” added D. Sudhanva.

The number of test takers on weekends was almost 8 times that on week days which would result in high deployment infrastructure costs to meet the peak load requirement. Excelsoft hosted the platform on Amazon Cloud Computing infrastructure that provided flexibility to scale up/down the hardware infrastructure depending on the expected load. This took care of the variability in load without having to spend on dedicated servers for peak load.

After evaluating several online assessment engines, they zeroed in on Excelsoft’s SARAS due to configurability of the application and reputation of the organization. TIME conducted more than 350,000 tests over a 4 month period, with an average concurrency of 2392 users per test using SARAS hosted on AWS.
